Accident occurred in a water body in an under-construction amusement park

NEW DELHI: At least two children of labourers were drowned in a water body in an under-construction amusement park at Prashant Vihar in North-West Delhi on Monday. The police have not registered any case in the matter so far.

The incident is learnt to have taken place around 8-30 a.m. when the children, identified as Rajesh and Deepak, had gone to take a bath in the rainwater accumulated in a big ditch in the area where the amusement park is coming up.

At the time, their parents were at work. Noticing that they were drowning, a girl raised an alarm. She rushed to the nearby hutments and informed the occupants, following which they rushed to the help of the children.

The two children, both eight years of age and cousins, were fished out and rushed to Ambedkar Hospital where they were declared dead on arrival.

According to sources, post-mortem was conducted on their bodies following which they were handed over to their relatives.

A DDA spokesperson said the plot on which the incident took place had been allotted to Unitech for construction of an amusement park.

"Some water had accumulated there in which the children drowned," she said.
