It may be testing times for M.A. Baby as Minister for Education and Cultural Affairs. Yet, his penchant for repartee has not eluded him. Mr. Baby was at his humorous best during the inauguration of the 11th Trivandrum International Film Festival in the city last week. When the filmmaker T.V. Chandran, who presided over the function, told Mr. Baby that it was difficult for him to speak for long owing to pain caused by a dental treatment, the response it evoked from the Minister left the audience in splits. The Minister, who was sitting next to the filmmaker on the dais, suggested, "The listeners are lucky, indeed." Later, while delivering the inaugural address, the Minister turned his attention to the architect G. Shankar, who was felicitated on the occasion for winning the `man of the year award' instituted by a private television channel. Mr. Baby remarked that the architect had made winning awards a habit. "Maybe, that is why he is heading Habitat," the Minister observed.
