A TRICKY ISSUE: Jadugar Anand, president of All India Magic Federation, performing the `Great Indian Rope Trick' at a press conference in Hubli on Tuesday.
HUBLI: Jadugar Anand, president of the All India Magic Federation, has urged the Government to set up a magic academy in Bangalore. He told presspersons here on Tuesday that the Rajasthan Government had approved a similar proposal, the modalities of which were being worked out. The federation would offer technical expertise, but the Government should provide assistance since magicians faced financial problems. "Magic is an amazing art, a display of acquired skills where the laws of nature are set aside for entertainment," he said. Despite being centuries old, magic had not received social acceptance in the country. Although Indian magicians were being respected in the West, youngsters were not coming forward to learn magic as an art, he said. Mr. Anand said that his son, Akash, would ride a motorcycle blindfolded in Hubli on Wednesday to spread the message of safe driving. It will start from Sawai Gandharva Hall and pass through thoroughfares of the city before concluding at the starting point.
`Mayalok'
Mr. Anand's "Mayalok" would begin at Sawai Gandharva Hall on August 4. The highlights of the show this time would be tricks such as disappearance of the Statue of Liberty and appearance of an elephant on stage from nowhere, he said.
