Peace process

The news that the Foreign Secretaries of India and Pakistan feel the peace process must not be affected (Aug. 1) is baffling. There is a major terrorist attack; we hear strong words from our leaders; the Government puts off talks with Pakistan saying it must do more to rein in terrorists; and suddenly the Secretaries talk to each other and decide that the peace process should go on. While we do not expect an Israel-type of response, the Government should do something to deliver on its rhetoric.

S. Sudhir Kumar,
Hyderabad

Islamabad's continued stand that the peace process and terrorism are not to be linked makes a mockery of the process. To a layman, Pakistan's position implies that notwithstanding any progress in the peace talks terrorism will continue unabated.

Ajeet Kumar,
Indore, M.P.

The 12 Kashmiri militants trained by Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence in PoK, who surrendered to the Indian army in Baramulla, provide live evidence to all those who still have doubts regarding Islamabad's role in perpetrating terror attacks here.

The brave move by the 12 men should encourage more of their kind to give up arms and lead a peaceful life.

Naveen Acharya,
Udupi, Karnataka
