Pondicherry
Special Correspondent
Pondicherry: The Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) Parliamentary party leader, M. Ramadoss, who welcomed various welfare and progressive measures the Chief Minister N. Rangasamy announced in the budget, however, felt that the Government could have come out with a definite job policy to tackle unemployment problem daunting the educated youth. In a release here on Monday Mr. Ramadoss said that although no fresh taxes had been imposed in the budget, care should have been taken that the economic growth was not crippled by proposal to get a loan of Rs. 812 crore. There was no projection of present status of the economy and no reference had been made to the trend of implementation of schemes announced in the past. No scheme had been announced to develop inland fisheries in the Union Territory. There was also absence of specific schemes to augment underground water table, which had been coming down steeply. Mr. Ramadoss pointed out that while the scheme to provide allowance to educated unemployed youth had been announced, no firm policy was clarified to meet job requirements of around 1.5 lakh unemployed persons here. The Pondicherry administration could have adopted policies on lines with the Employment Guarantee Scheme of the Cenre. Mr. Ramadoss said that despite these shortcomings the budget had several good programmes and Karaikal had been taken care of specifically by innovative schemes for its development.
