Farmer ends life in Belgaum district
According to official sources and villagers, Kallappa Shivappa Kurangi, father of three sons and a daughter, hanged himself from a tree in his fields on the outskirts of village. Villagers said Kallappa owned two and a half acres and had planted potato with the help of loans from a cooperative bank and moneylenders. But he was unable to recover even half the amount invested during the past three years. Staff Correspondent
Government approves 24 new nursing colleges
Minister for Medical Education V.S. Acharya, who chaired a meeting of the subcommittee, told presspersons that the new colleges were sanctioned based on the recommendations of the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences. The intake of each college would be about 40, Dr. Acharya said. Before admitting students, the managements had to obtain formal approval from the Nursing Council of India, he said. Dr. Acharya said the subcommittee had approved increase in intake of students for postgraduate and diploma courses in pharmacy, physiotherapy, radiology and surgery. Special Correspondent
Indian announces spot fares
The spot fares will be available as X class fares or unchecked fares on select flights out of Bangalore, Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata and Hyderabad a few hours prior to the departure of the flight, according to a company release here. Tickets bought against spot fares will be valid only for the flight for which it is issued. No refund will be permitted against cancellation of the ticket, the release said. Staff Reporter
