NEW DELHI: Parliamentary Affairs Minister Priyaranjan Dasmunsi has criticised the Opposition parties, especially the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Akali Dal, for disrupting the Lok Sabha on Tuesday and preventing a discussion on minimum support price for agricultural products and other farmers' issues. At a meeting of party leaders on Monday Akali Dal leader S.S. Dhindsa said he would like a discussion on minimum support price, especially for wheat. Everyone agreed and the Speaker admitted a call attention motion by all parties, including the Akali Dal on Tuesday. However, the opposition leaders came to the well and disrupted proceedings, forcing a daylong adjournment, Mr. Dasmunsi said. "The Opposition demanded a discussion. The Speaker agreed. And they went on to prevent a discussion. It was unparalleled." Perhaps the Opposition did not want answers to the questions it had raised, he said. In a discussion, comparisons would be made between the records of the UPA Government and the National Democratic Alliance regime. The Opposition preferred to run away from the discussion.
