Sensex closes flat
MUMBAI:
The Bombay Stock Exchange sensitive index overcame initial resistance but closed flat on Tuesday in limited activity and a low volume, amid sustained foreign institutional investment inflows and short covering by operators.
The BSE 30-share sensitive index (Sensex) closed at 10751.66 against Monday's close of 10743.88, a net gain of 7.78 points. The Sensex traded in the negative territory for a major part of the session, moving between 10777.47 and 10645.99 but recovered in the last one hour on short covering by operators as well as foreign institutional investors. On the National Stock Exchange, the S&P CNX Nifty edged up by 4.60 points to 3147.80.
The FIIs once again slowed down their inflows after heavy purchases in the Futures and the Cash segments during last week, brokers said. They reported net inflows of Rs. 128 crore in derivatives while making investments, as per provisional figure, of Rs. 185 crore in the Cash segment on Monday. PTI
