Naxalites attack IRB camp in West Bengal
Special Correspondent
Kolkata:
A group of suspected naxalites attacked a camp of the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) at Chhurimara village in Paschim Medinipur district of West Bengal late on Monday night.
Heavy exchange of fire followed and it lasted for over an hour. There was no report of any casualty, a senior police official here said on Tuesday.
The area, which lies adjacent to Jharkhand, is being combed to apprehend the attackers. Personnel from a nearby Central Reserve Police Force camp are assisting the police in the search. Police suspect that the naxalites mounted the attack to avenge the recent arrest of a local leader of the Maoist Communist Centre.
