MYSORE: The "Non-Resident Kannadigas Friends Club", which was inaugurated here recently, will take up service projects in the Mysore region and adopt Government schools. The club was inaugurated by its chief patron C.V. Shashikumar and the website (www.horanadakannadiga.org) was inaugurated by Kannada columnist H.S. Krishnaswamy Iyengar here on Saturday.
Office-bearers
The latter expressed hope that the club would take up projects for the needy. Office-bearers of the club are: C.V. Shashikumar (chief patron), C. Sharathkumar (president), M.R. Shivanna (chairman), M.G.R.Urs (working president), D. Thimmaiah and B.S. Prashanth (vice-chairmen), Ramakrishna Bahusar (general secretary), M. Lakshmana (organising secretary), Bhavanishankar (joint secretary), Arathi (treasurer) and M.N. Venkatesh and Vedavathi (advisors). Mr. Shashikumar said the club had been formed by non-resident Kannadigas with the objective of taking up service projects in their place of birth.
Popularising Kannada
Club chairman M.R. Shivanna said the club had decided to adopt government schools in Mysore in order to provide basic infrastructure. "It will also strive to popularise Kannada by developing Kannada-medium schools," he said.
New ventures
He added that the club would facilitate non-resident Kannadigas to launch industrial and business ventures in Mysore.
