Ex-MLC, freedom fighter dead

HYDERABAD: Writer-journalist and former MLC Mannava Giridhara Rao (77) died at a private hospital in Guntur on Monday following a brief illness. Rao, who began his career as head, Department of Political Science, Hindu College, Guntur, was an MLC during 1968-1974. A columnist of `Janadesh' for a decade, he edited a monthly "Bharateeya Margam." He created a sensation with his novel "MLA Atmakatha."

Freedom fighter

Kacham Krishnamurthy (85), a veteran communist of the Telangana Armed Struggle and senior member of the CPI (M) State committee who was involved in farmers' movements, died here on Tuesday . He is survived by widow, a son and daughter.

Attracted to the communist ideology as a boy, he participated in the Andhra Mahasabha programmes and led movements for land in Ranga Reddy and Nalgonda districts in 1979 and was a member of the State committee since 1971.
