Tribals flock to health camp

    MALKAPUR (NIZAMABAD DT.): A health camp jointly conducted by the Indian Red Cross Society, Indian Medical Association and Andhra Pradesh Union of Working Journalists' district units at Malkapur tanda where a number of tribal people were down with viral fevers was a big draw on Tuesday.

    Patients and other residents including a large number of women and children lined up for a medical check-up in front of the Government Primary School, the venue of the camp.

    Blood smears of some of the patients were taken in the Red Cross mobile van. IRCS volunteers B. Chinna Reddy and Ramchander Rao supervised the arrangements and distribution of medicines to the patients free of cost.

    Person dies

    The tribal hamlet, just 10 kms from the district headquarters has a population of 2,500 and above. It was reported in the media that a large number of people, nearly one person in every household was suffering from chikungunya and other viral fevers. One person Islavath Hanmiya (40) was also reported to have died of fever.

    Responding to these reports, APUWJ district unit took a lead and roped in doctors and Red Cross volunteers to conduct the camp for the welfare of poor tribals.
