Shift police station: court

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The Thiru.Vi.Ka. Nagar police station, which is situated on a plot meant for hospital, shall be vacated and shifted to another place before May 31, 2007, the Madras High Court has ruled.

The First Bench comprising Chief Justice A.P. Shah and Justice K. Chandru gave the direction on a public interest litigation petition from L.T. Willam Moses of Sembiam. The petitioner prayed for a direction to the Home Secretary, Chennai District Collector, the Tamil Nadu Housing Board (TNHB) and Chennai Corporation to adhere to the approved layout plan that had provisions for an hospital, auditorium, library, children's park, etc.,

Though, as per the original layout, four grounds had been earmarked for the hospital, the Chennai Corporation built only 2,400-sqft hospital.

The remaining land was taken over for the police station. Assailing this, Mr. Willam Moses said space crunch had crippled the day-to-day activities of the hospital.
