One tricycle to be given for every 150-200 houses: Jaju

  • Door-to-door collection of garbage in all areas
  • Rationalisation of solid waste management transport system taken up
  • Mechanical sweeping in main thoroughfares; 100 graduates to monitor garbage transport

HYDERABAD : Rag pickers successfully redeployed, after training for garbage clearance in circle six, are to be introduced in all areas under the jurisdiction of Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad from August 15.

Commissioner Sanjay Jaju said on Tuesday that one tricycle will be given for every 150-200 houses and door-to-door collection of garbage will be taken up.

    Reforms under way

Rationalisation of solid waste management transport system has been taken up in all areas to ensure good sanitation work. Several reforms were introduced on waste management and mechanical sweeping would be introduced in all the main thoroughfares.

About a 100 young management graduates are to be roped in to monitor garbage transport.

    Transit points

For every square kilometre, it is proposed to set up three transit points and on an average each sanitary supervisor would have to monitor about 10 transit points, he said. With introduction of door-to-door garbage collection, the present dustbins would be relocated.

Four to six of them are to be placed in one big area to ease transport fleet movement and reduce fuel expenses. Additional Commissioner (Health and Sanitation) Rammohana Rao was asked to fix up more bulk garbage users and insisted on issuing uniforms for all sanitary supervisors and other staff.

    Severe punishments

Hoteliers and others throwing garbage on main roads would be viewed seriously and said severe punishments would be levied, including revoking their trade licences. About 1,222 units were brought under the bulk garbage system and close to Rs. 12 lakhs was collected. More users are to be brought under this scheme
