Draft list for polling stations approved

  • List containing 1,790 stations to be displayed at all zonal offices, divisional offices
  • Exercise being carried out at the behest of State Election Commission

    CHENNAI: The Chennai Corporation Commissioner, who is also the district election officer for the city, has approved the draft list for polling stations for the Corporation council elections scheduled for October.

    A press release issued by the civic agency said the list, containing the details of 748 polling stations for men, 748 stations for women and 1,790 stations for all voters, will be displayed at all zonal offices and divisional offices concerned. In all, there will be 3, 286 stations.

    The exercise is being carried out at the behest of the State Election Commission (SEC).

    The list would also be available at the Commissioner's office at the Ripon Buildings and the offices of the Electoral Registration Officer and the Revenue Officer.

    List released in Tiruvallur

    The list of stations for the local bodies elections in Tiruvallur district was released on Tuesday. Collector Ranvir Prasad told presspersons that the list would be on display till August 14.

    The district has 2, 086 panchayat union polling stations, 269 stations in the town panchayats and 1,078 in the municipalities. An all-party meeting would be conducted in the district on August 7.

    The list used in the Assembly elections would be divided ward-wise before being displayed in all the panchayats. The list would be ready on August 20.

    The issue of photo identity cards, which began on July 29, would continue, the Collector said.

    The Thiruvallur Collectorate has also displayed the list of below poverty line families in all panchayat offices. People can check the list and file for inclusions or deletions.

    The Gram Sabha, scheduled to meet on August 15, will approve the final list before it is sent for publication.

    The families on the list will be the beneficiaries for any State Government schemes.
