VIJAYAWADA: Construction of a flyover at Ramavarappadu and a bypass road from Milk Factory to Ramavarappadu, which is being referred to as an inner ring road, will most likely be taken up this year under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM). The board of the Vijayawada, Guntur, Tenali and Mangalagiri-Urban Development Authority (VGTM-UDA), which met here on Tuesday, decided to place these proposals before the State-level sanctioning committee chaired by the Chief Minister at its next meeting in September. Once cleared in Hyderabad, the proposals will be sent to the central sanctioning committee for final clearance. For the Ramavarappadu flyover, which is estimated at Rs.20 crores, well-known consulting company RITES is preparing the detailed project report. It is expected to be ready by the month-end. For the Rs.25-crore bypass road of 11 km, the UDA will soon be calling for expression of interest in preparation of detailed project report.
Development zones
UDA chairman Malladi Vishnu and vice-chairman Y.S. Prasad said at a press conference that the board had approved development plans of five zones, taking the total number of approved plans to 15. These plans were being sent to the State Government for final notification. Of the 27 zones that fell under the area of the VGTM-UDA, zonal development plan of Nidamanur was already notified some time ago. The Hyderabad-based Speck Systems Private Limited had prepared the zonal development plans of 15 zones, including Vijayawada, Guntur, Tenali and Mangalagiri, by using high-resolution satellite images. These were thrown open for public scrutiny and some of the objections and suggestions received were incorporated into the plans. As the contract with this firm ended now, the UDA would call for fresh proposals for preparation of zonal development plans of the remaining 11 zones in the second phase. The board, he said, had also agreed to positively consider the plea of property owners on the stretch of Eluru road from Padavalarevu to Ramavarappadu to widen the road to just 90 feet, in which case they would voluntarily give away their lands.
