End stalemate, AKPCTA tells university

Staff Reporter

KOCHI : The All Kerala Private College Teachers' Association (AKPCTA) has urged Mahatma Gandhi University authorities to end the academic stalemate arising out of the syllabi revision for postgraduate and undergraduate courses.

The university authorities had not initiated any discussion before reducing the postgraduate semester papers from 22 to 17. This was unprecedented because no academic-level discussion had been held either at the Board of Studies level of various subjects or in the academic council, Rajan Varughese, State secretary of the association, said in a press release on Tuesday.

He said the affiliated colleges with postgraduate programmes were not able to finalise the work allocation and timetable for the first semester following lack of communication from the university regarding papers that had been removed from the syllabus.

In the case of undergraduate courses, the university authorities did not outline the general norms of revision, which should have formed the basis of a genuine curriculum restructuring, the release said.

The association urged the authorities not to sabotage the functioning of the centralised valuation camps held for postgraduate courses.

The AKPCTA decided to intensify its agitation demanding immediate steps to improve the academic functioning of the university.
