KOCHI: The Kochi Corporation has decided to strictly implement the guidelines for the sale of meat in the city following reported instances of anthrax disease in Koothattukulam area. Cattle can be slaughtered for meat only after inspection and obtaining the certificate from the veterinary surgeon. The meat should also be subjected to inspection by the surgeon. The certificate issued by the veterinary surgeon and the meat with the seal of the surgeon affixed on it should be displayed for verification by the authorities and the public, said a statement issued by health officer of the Kochi Corporation on Tuesday. The Health Officer also warned of strict action against those who engaged in meat trade without the mandatory licence and the use of bogus seal. Criminal proceedings would be initiated against those who sell stale and adulterated meat.
