Bangalore: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader in the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) Council A.H. Basavaraju has sought a judicial inquiry into the Garuda Mall issue. Alleging irregularities in awarding the contract to Maverick Holdings and Investments, Mr. Basavaraju said that when the tenders were floated, the company contesting against Maverick Oxford Hoardings was a fictitious company as it had not been registered with the Office of Registrar of Companies. Mr. Basavaraju said criminal cases should be filed against officers involved in the alleged irregularity. In the recent BMP council meeting, Commissioner K. Jairaj had said that a notice had0 been served on Maverick Holdings and Investments, the promoters of the mall, on July 28 asking them to stop all construction work on the site next to it. He had said that the promoters were told that since they had not submitted the modified plan for constructing the sewage treatment plant on 3456 sq.ft. of land next to the mall, as required by the Karnataka Municipal Act (KMC), they could not continue with the work. Mr. Jairaj had said that the promoters had been asked to remove the shops and restaurants that have come up on the third and fifth floors of Garuda Mall as they were meant for parking.
