New Delhi : The CBI on Tuesday told a city court that it had traced a London address of Ravi Shankaran, an accused in the Navy War Room leak case. The accused has been declared absconding since July 17, 2006. Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Seema Maini had on July 17 passed an order declaring Shankaran as absconding and directed the CBI to start proclamation proceedings against him. Subsequently, notices were pasted at three of Shankaran's known addresses at Mumbai, Goa and his residence in Pune, ordering him to appear before the court by July 31 or be declared a "proclaimed offender." The agency said it had come to know of the U.K. address only after the proclamation proceedings began.
Charge sheet filed
The CBI had filed a charge sheet against Shankaran and four others in the case, accusing them of offences under Section 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC and other provisions of the Official Secrets Act. Meanwhile, co-accused Abhishek Verma, who was produced in court after his 10-day police remand, was sent to judicial custody till August 14. Verma is accused of playing a pivotal role with Shankaran and another accused Kulbhushan Parashar in leaking sensitive documents from the Directorate of Naval Operations at South Block and Air headquarters.
