HYDERABAD: A constable of the Punjagutta traffic police station traced a handbag that was lost by a retired bank official on Tuesday. The bag was later handed over to him. Y. Narasimha Rao, retired deputy manager of State Bank of India, was proceeding towards Punjagutta on a scooter after withdrawing Rs. 12,900 from the post office at Greenlands when he lost his handbag. Mr. Rao went to the post office again but could not trace the bag. To Mr. Rao's surprise he received a call on his mobile from Punjagutta traffic inspector K.M. Madhu who told him that a constable had found a bag near Rajiv Gandhi statue at Somajiguda and asked him to come and collect it. Mr. Rao immediately went to the station and collected it. "I never expected that I would get my bag back. Thanks to the constable I got it," Mr. Rao said. He presented Rs. 1,000 reward to the constable, Shankar. Mr. Rao, a resident of Begumpet, was also carrying Income Tax assessment papers and other documents. Mr. Madhu said they were able to contact Mr. Rao with the help of a visiting card in the bag.
