Letters to the Editor
The Congress is getting shriller by the day in its efforts to nail Jaswant Singh. Mr. Singh has done the right thing by refusing to reveal the sensitive details about the mole. Instead of ordering a probe into the document on which Mr. Singh has based his premise, the Prime Minister and his party are trying to shoot the messenger who brought in the bad tidings. One can only bring in credible evidence that could point out to malfeasance but cannot state with conviction that a particular person was involved.
S. Thyagarajan,
That a former External Affairs Minister has disclosed the existence of a U.S. mole is highly significant and has a direct bearing on national security. Even if Mr. Singh did not name the `mole,' his pronouncements are transparent enough to testify his indubitable knowledge of the person. Similarly, the fact that he did not reveal the matter for so many years does not in any way reduce its alarming nature. By not giving private audience to Mr. Singh, the Prime Minister gives the impression of covering up an impending scandal that may blow up in the Congress party's face.
C. Pratap,
