Corrections and Clarifications

  • A number of readers have said that the list of recipients (from India) of the Magsaysay Award was incomplete in "Crusade against corruption finds recognition" (August 1, 2006) — a report on Arvind Kejriwal being awarded the Magsaysay Award this year. Yes, it was. The reporter did make a selective choice giving the impression that there were only six recipients from India. In fact, there are 44 recipients from India — this includes Mr. Kejriwal.

  • Ted Corbett's report "Innings win for England" ("Sport", July 30, 2006) said that spinner [Monty] Panesar has got 24 wickets in seven tests, which a reader says is incorrect. He cites the UNI report "`Beefy' [Ian Botham] bats for Panesar" ("Sport", August 2, 2006) which gave the figures as 25 wickets from eight Tests. The UNI figures are correct.

  • With reference to the report "Divided by a common language" (The Guardian, "Technology", July 27, 2006, and which appeared as "Other alphabets want a slice of Internet", The Hindu, Op-Ed, July 28, 2006), the office of the Readers' Editor, The Guardian, clarifies: "We mistakenly gave the impression that there are no non-Latin alphabet internet domain names in the feature. Icann — the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers — has asked us to point out that non-Latin characters have been permitted for some time except at the top level (as in .com, .net, .uk, and so on) and that they are working on the top-level during 2006."
