NEW DELHI: Private low-cost domestic carrier SpiceJet, which began operations in May last year, has reported an operating profit of Rs. 71.52 crore. Total revenues, including the turnover of Rs. 421 crore, stood at Rs. 453.15 crore. The carrier reported a net loss of Rs. 41 crore during the year.

Announcing the results for 2005-06, SpiceJet Chairman Siddhant Sharma and Director Ajay Singh told reporters that the airline carried over 16 lakh passengers during the year.

Owing to spiralling prices of aviation turbine fuel, the carrier's fuel bill touched Rs. 160 crore during the year, Mr. Sharma said. In the fourth quarter, SpiceJet reported a net loss of Rs. 13 crore. The total income stood at Rs. 151 crore.
