BANGALORE: Several dental students selected for admission to postgraduate courses in private minority and religious dental colleges have moved the Karnataka High Court against the refusal of admission to them. Petitioners Nithin N. Bhaskar, Santosh Ashok Nandimath and eight others said they had been selected in a fresh round of counselling for admission to colleges under the Karnataka Religious and Linguistic Minority Private Colleges Association (KRLMPCA). The petitioners said a single judge had set aside the admission and counselling process of the association and directed the State Government and the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) to redo the entire process. The single judge had given this direction after several students complained that less meritorious students and those who had not appeared for the entrance examination had been allotted seats. The RGUHS had conducted fresh counselling and allotted seats to petitioners and other students in colleges coming under the association. The students claimed that when they went to the colleges they were refused admission stating that a writ appeal against the single judge order had been filed. They said refusal to admit them was illegal and arbitrary and sought a direction to admit them. Justice B.S. Patil referred the matter to a Division Bench as an identical matter was pending before it.
