NEW DELHI: Having fallen at the last hurdle last year, Indian Air Force, New Delhi held its nerve to overcome Indian National 6-5 via the sudden death in the final of the Uttaranchal Cup football tournament at the Ambedkar Stadium here on Wednesday. The teams were locked goalless at the end of the regulation period and the tie-breaker session saw the teams score four goals each. In the tie-breaker, Kalyan Pal began poorly for IAF by hitting the post but Gopal Thapa shot wide for Nationals. W. P. Singh and Sanat Kar scored the next two attempts for IAF and Nationals responded successfully through Manoj Joshi and P. K. Kundu. Nationals made a change at this stage, substituting goalkeeper Vikrant with Achan but that did not stop P. B. Sangdingliana, goalkeeper Aurobindo Bandopadhyaya, Sonan Ram Champia and L. Danny from scoring. For Nationals, Ravender, Chidhi and Kartik scored while Satnam shot straight to Bandopadhyaya. Earlier, Hans Club defeated Girls United Club 3-2 to win the title in the women's section. The teams were locked goalless at the end of the regulation period. In the tie-breaker, Vinita Baluni, Anju and Priyanka Singh scored for Hans Club while Sonika and Pallavi netted for Girls United. Mr. K. C. Singh `Baba' and Mr. Harish Rawat, members of Parliament from Uttaranchal, gave away the prizes where L. Danny of IAF and Vinita Baluni of Hans Club were declared the best players of the tournament in their respective sections.
