ZAGREB: Jaspal Rana slipped further in his favourite centrefire pistol event as he shot 577 out of 600 for the 26th spot in the 49th World shooting championship. He had rounds of 288 and 289 in the precision and rapidfire series respectively. The two other Indians in the fray, Vijay Kumar (577) and Samaresh Jung (575) took the 27th and 33rd places in a field of 67 shooters. Samaresh had a 290 in precision but only 285 in the second stage. The Indian team finished eighth with 1729 points, while Russia swept the field with an impressive tally of 1746 points. Liu Yadong of China took the gold with 587 while Mikhail Nestruev of Russia won the tie-shoot 50-49 for the silver after he had tied at 585 with Michael Hofmann of Switzerland. Meanwhile, in skeet, former National champion Naveen Jindal had a good start of 49 out of 50 following rounds of 24 and 25. However, his teammates, Mairaj Ahmed Khan and Amit Sanghi fared poor with 66 and 62 respectively after three rounds. Mairaj had a sequence of 22, 21 and 23 while Sanghi had a poor series of 22, 21 and 19.
