KAVALI: Suraj Desai of Gujarat ousted top seed Lakshit Sood of Uttar Pradesh 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 in the boys' quarterfinals of the Visvodaya Institute of Technology and Science-AITA Super Series under 16 championships at the engineering college courts here on Wednesday. In Thursday morning's semifinals, Suraj takes on A. Daniel Raj, a 6-1, 7-5 winner over Man Singh Athare, while Shantanu Rajput, who subdued Ankesh Bhargava 7-5, 6-4 faces Kaza Vinayak Sarma, who accounted for S.V. Abhishek 6-3, 6-1 in the last eight stage.
Justifying the billing
All the top four seeds in the distaff side, true to their billing, advanced to the semifinals, where Tanvi R. Shah will meet T. Nilaya, while second seed V. Archana runs into Gopika Kapoor. Desai played aggressively, making the most of Sood's weakness with running shots. A pile of unforced errors cost Desai the second set, but he came good in the next to clinch the issue.
