Staff Reporter

ALAPPUZHA: A group of armed hooch traders attacked and damaged a jeep of excise party at Muringachira in Muthukulam on Wednesday night and escaped with 200 litres of hooch. One excise official was injured in the attack.

The police said an eight-member team of excise officials led by Circle Inspector of excise Kayamkulam, Gopakumar, raided the area and seized 200 litres of hooch and raw materials for making country liquor. Equipment for distilling liquor was also seized by the team.

Following that group of armed men, numbering around 100, attacked the excise party and took away the confiscated hooch and other items. The jeep was completely destroyed in the attack.

A large posse of police was deployed in the area.
