GMR takes control of IGI Airport

NEW DELHI: Putting an end to the three-month transition period, the GMR-Fraport consortium officially took over full control of Indira Gandhi International Airport at the stroke of midnight on Wednesday. The take-over by the joint venture company opens a new chapter for Delhi airport.

The company plans to create good amenities for the passengers within the next few months. On the cards are better seating arrangements, flooring and lighting. Also, additional X-Ray machines will be installed for faster security checks for passengers.

Anganwadi workers continue strike

NEW DELHI: The relay hunger strike by anganwadi workers from across the country entered its ninth day at Jantar Mantar here on Wednesday.

Under the banner of All-India Federation of Anganwadi Workers and Helpers, workers from Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Pondicherry, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar have been demanding that the Government redress their grievances. During their agitation, the workers have got support of people from major political parties and organisations.

Speaker's assurance on water supply

NEW DELHI: Delhi Assembly Speaker Chaudhary Prem Singh has assured residents of Madangir and nearby areas of regular drinking water supply.

Inaugurating re-boring of tubewells at Madangir, Mr. Singh said Rs.20 lakhs from his MLA funds had been spent on augmenting the water supply.

Later, Mr. Singh along with senior officers of Government agencies took a round of his constituency. He drew their attention to the problems of waterlogging and choked drainage and sewerage systems and asked them to solve these soonest.

Workshop on morning workers

NEW DELHI: A two-day national workshop on "Legislative Protection of Unorganised Sector Women Workers" will be held at Gandhi Peace Foundation here on Thursday.

Organised by the National Campaign Committee for Unorganised Sector Workers (NCC-USW), the workshop will draw attention to the fact that basic laws such as Minimum Wages Act an Equal Remuneration Act lack an implementation mechanism and are violated with impunity. Also, crores of women are working in the unorganised sector in the country in an unprotected state. Labouring for long hours, the women workers are working for low wages and suffering from economic and sexual exploitation with no social security.
