MANGALORE: The main purpose of education was not just providing information. It should be aimed at the overall development of a person, said Pragya Rao, wife of Deputy Commissioner Maheshwar Rao, speaking at the decennial celebrations of St. Theresa's School here on Wednesday. Wilberta, vice-president, Bethany Educational Trust, said that educating a child was the shared responsibility of parents, teachers and the community. According to her, the main role of teachers was to instil self-confidence in children, while that of the community was to teach values. The `Decennial Special' news bulletin of the school was released and an outreach programme titled "Twinning with the poor" was also launched. Under the programme, students would take up various activities such as "each one, teach one," blood camps and hygiene awareness camps in the slums of Shaktinagar area.
