Padi railway gate damaged again

CHENNAI: A tipper lorry hit and damaged a portion of the railway level crossing at Padi on Tuesday night.

Railway Protection Force authorities seized the lorry and arrested the driver, J. Joseph (31) of Ennore. He was fined Rs.9,000. RPF authorities said the lorry, while crossing the gate at around 11.30 p.m. on Tuesday, struck the left sideof the gate, damaging it.

Two arrested for theft

RPF personnel arrested two men and recovered a submersible pump stolen last week from the Padi railway station. The motor was fixed inside a water tank at the railway station.

The police arrested Chinnadurai (27) of Thiru Nagar, Villivakkam, on Tuesday; after questioning him they arrested V.Kanda Kumar (29) of Tirumangalam Road, Villivakkam.

The stolen pump was valued at Rs.8,000. The two have been remanded to judicial custody.
