Staff Reporter

Sequel to wordy duel over victory of candidates

VIJAYAWADA: A Telugu Desam Party worker was killed following a clash between TDP and Congress groups at Muppalla village in Chandarlapadu mandal in Krishna district on Wednesday.

When polling was in progress TDP and Congress workers had a heated exchange over the victory of their candidates.

Tension mounted as workers of the two groups hurled stones at each other. Komati Venkateswara Rao, 38, and Kanakanchi Rama Rao of the TDP sustained injuries and were admitted to a private hospital in Chandarlapadu. Venkateswara Rao succumbed to the injuries. The condition of Rama Rao, however, is said to be stable.

TDP workers held Congressmen responsible for the death of Venkateswara Rao and demanded that the police register cases against all Congress workers in the village. The Chandarlapadu police are investigating the case. Sporadic incidents of group clashes and agitations marked the panchayat elections in Penuganchiprolu, Totlavalluru and Penamaluru mandals.
