HYDERABAD: Three unidentified persons robbed a senior citizen of Rs. 3.2 lakhs at knifepoint during daytime on Wednesday at VST Colony in Nacharam. The victim B. Narender Reddy, a retired employee of BHEL, was alone in his house while his son and daughter-in-law went out on some personal work when the robbery was committed. The three knocked on the doors around 1.30 p.m. saying they were from a phone company and wanted to speak to him. Doubting their claims, the old man did not open the door immediately and asked as to why the three of them came together. "As the trio insisted on speaking to him, the old man opened the door," the Nacharam police station writer Narasimha Reddy said. Even as he was unbolting the door, the three strangers barged inside and one of them held a knife to Mr. Reddy's throat. Soon after entering inside, the intruders surrounded the old man and repeatedly asked him where cash was kept. Mr. Reddy had sold a plot on Tuesday and kept the Rs. 3.2-lakh sale proceeds in the house. "This indicates the robbers were aware of the money kept in the house and familiar about the house owner's movements," the police said. Later, they collected the cash from the almirah, forcibly took two gold rings the old man wore, pushed him into a room, bolted it from outside and walked away threatening him not to raise his voice till they disappeared.
