"Law and order situation in Delhi worsening"

  • `Neither the Home Minister nor the Lt. Governor of Delhi had even once called a meeting of the MPs from Delhi'
  • Speaker Somnath Chatterjee described Monday's gruesome killings as shocking

NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday sought the resignation of Home Minister Shivraj Patil over, what it called, deteriorating law and order situation in the Capital.

Deputy leader of the party in the Lok Sabha V.K. Malhotra said the Minister had no moral right to continue as the situation was deteriorating with increasing incidents of brutal killings, including those of women, children and elderly couple, this week and rapes.

What was worse was that the Government had reduced the Ministry's annual budget this year, he pointed out.

Mr. Malhotra said neither the Home Minister nor the Lt. Governor of Delhi had called a meeting of MPs from Delhi to discuss the city's law and order.
