Jeev one shot off the lead

Hokkaido : Poor putting right at the end of the first round robbed Jeev Milkha Singh of the chance to take the lead in the Sun Chlorella Classic at the Otaru Country Golf Club on Thursday.

Jeev, having his finest season in Japan with six top-10 finishes in eight starts this season, carded a one-under 71 to be tied ninth (with 11 other players), but just one shot off the eight-way lead at two-under.

The golf course playing very tough on the opening yielded just 20 under-par scores and the best was by eight players Koumei Oda, Takenori Hiraishi, Hisayuki Sasaki, Liang Wen Chong, Kim Jong Duck, Masayoshi Yamazoe, Shigeru Nonaka and Hideto Tanihara.

Indifferent driving

At Malmo (Sweden), indifferent driving cost Jyoti Randhawa dear as he carded a three-over 75 in the first round of the EnterCard Scandinavian Masters at the Barseback Golf and Country Club.

Marc Warren was leading the field at five-under with at least four players tied for second place at four-under.

Jyoti had a rough day finding just four of the 14 fairways and reached only 50 per cent greens in regulation.

His putting was also not up to standard as he needed 30 putts for his round. — Agencies
