Tax collections up 40 p.c. in Q1

NEW DELHI: The Centre's tax collections during the first quarter in the current fiscal at Rs. 44,463 crore were over 40 per cent more than the Rs. 31,668 crore mopped up during the same period of 2005-06. Total revenue collections during the quarter, however, were a mere 13.6 per cent of the targeted mop-up of Rs. 3,27,205 crore fixed for the entire fiscal, according to data collated by the Controller General of Accounts (CGA).
