Chennai: Diwakar Prasad Singh of Jamshedpur scored an easy and attacking victory over Sagar Shah of Mumbai to win the 6th Adyar Times FIDE-rating chess tournament with a round to spare here on Thursday. D.P. Singh, 30, has now won six tournaments in the last two years. Arriving 30 minutes late at the board, Singh rushed his moves and latched on to an early eighth move mistake from Sagar to win the game in 40 moves and the tournament with 8.5 points.

``My game against Nitin was the best,'' said Singh for whom this was the second event in Chennai. He hopes to settle in Chennai and complete his chess ambitions. Singh, who works 14-15 hours of chess together with sparring partner Umakant Sharma (Southern Railway), does not have a sponsor or employer. Ram S. Krishnan is in second place with 7.5 points. He is unbeaten like Singh and played two draws against Sagar Shah and Arun Karthik. Earlier, Singh beat O.T. Anilkumar of Kozhikode with a decisive queen sortie to take the sole lead at the end of the morning session. The results (Ninth round): D.P.
