HYDERABAD : Four athletes from the State, including J.J. Shobha (heptathlon) and Sathi Geetha (400m), will be joining the Indian team for a two-month long training camp in Ukraine, according to Prof. K. Ranga Rao, secretary of AP Amateur Athletic Association. Rao said P. Shankar of ONGC (400m and 400m hurdles) and J. Srinivas (400m) would be the other athletes picked for the camp by the Athletic Federation of India. Nagapuri Ramesh, SAI athletics coach, will be accompanying them as one of the coaches.
Football league
The Andhra Pradesh Football Association will organise the B, C and D-division league championships as early as possible. All the affiliated clubs and departmental teams are to register themselves with the APFA before August 15. Further particulars can be had from the APFA Office on phone No. 23234433.
Easy for Adarsh CC
Adarsh CC scored a five-wicket win against Spoorthy in the Goodwill Cup cricket tournament here. The scores: Spoorthy CC 132 for eight lost to Adarsh CC 134 for five (Ramesh 41, Srinu 41). Cistron CC 158 for six bt Pharma Blues 130 for eight.
Sepak takraw meet
The Andhra Pradesh senior inter-district sepak takraw championship for men and women will be held at Nagarjuna Government Degree College (Nalgonda) from August 5 to 6. Probables for the State coaching camp, which is scheduled to be held in the city, will be selected during the meet. Contact Prem Raj at the association office or MCH Tank Bund Office.
Master pairs event
The Fateh Maidan Club will organise a master pairs bridge tournament on August 6 from 10.00 a.m. on its premises. Contact K. Nageshwar Rao, convenor (9848081692).
FMC billiards & snooker
The Fateh Maidan Club will organise its 29th Open FMC billiards and snooker tournament from August 5, according to T. Seshnarayan, organising committee chairman. He said the event has attracted 147 entries 106 in snooker and 41 in billiards. Some of the familiar names like Simhachalam, L. Durga Prasad, K. Venkatesham and P.G. Benny in billiards and John Bosco, Hemanth Kumar and S. Shanker in snooker will be seen in action. The event carries a prize money of Rs. 50,000.
Final postponed
The final of the fourth Dr. Emily Emanuel inter-school basketball tournament, scheduled to be held on Thursday, has been postponed to August 7 due to incessant rains.
