Retired constable shot dead

Meerut: A retired police constable was shot dead by unknown assailants in neighbouring Baghpat district of Uttar Pradesh, police said on Thursday.

Kaluram Sharma, 64, was shot dead by unidentified persons outside his house last night, they said adding that he died on the spot.

A property dispute is believed to be the reason behind the crime and further investigations are on, police said.

In another incident, armed men entered a local `ashram' in Niloha village of Meerut and looted cash and gold ornaments, a senior police official said on Thursday. "Seven armed robbers entered the Swami Shri Bharti Ganeshanand Ashram late last night and looted cash and valuables including gold oranaments," Meerut SSP Navneet Sekera said. PTI
