JAIPUR: A massive campaign to generate awareness about dangers of drug addiction and liquor consumption was launched in Sangaria sub-division in Hanumangarh district of Rajasthan on Wednesday. The initiative was taken by the district administration with an active support of civil society organisations. The march of nearly 5,000 schoolchildren, dozens of district officials and members of non-Government organisations through the lanes of the small town attracted the attention of people including shopkeepers who witnessed a rare commitment to mobilise the society for de-addiction. Hanumangarh Collector T. Ravikanth said the month-long drive would entail joint action by various sections of society, while nearly two-dozen district officials would monitor day-to-day activities in each village of the sub-division. Raids against medical shops selling intoxicating drugs will also be undertaken during the campaign. De-addiction volleyball competitions will be held in villages to motivate drug addicts through sports. The district administration has distributed special wristbands in all schools. A district-level slogan competition was also organised and three slogans were adjudged the best.
