Manmohan apologises to Asma Jehangir

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday apologised to Pakistan human rights activist Asma Jehangir for the Delhi Police action of searching her hotel room here on Tuesday night.

Dr. Singh telephoned her and apologised. He invited her to visit India again.

The police entered Ms. Jehangir's hotel room on the plea that they were doing a check as part of pre-Independence Day security measures. They went through the closet cupboards and her bags. The police also searched the rooms of her colleagues Fakhruddin G. Ebrahim and I.A. Rehman and those of others present in Ms. Jehangir's room.
