VIVID COLOURS: A painting by Illoosh Judge Ahluwalia
Artist Illoosh Judge Ahluwalia's recent works of painting will be showcased at a weeklong exhibition titled "Monsoon" at Arpana Art Gallery in New Delhi on Friday. An alumnus of Lawrence School at Sanawar and Sophia Polytechnic in Mumbai, Illoosh specialises in eloquent strokes. In her latest artistic manifestations, Illoosh portrays the picturesque images of the monsoon showers. Seemingly innocent strokes that lament the speechless cravings of a soul to the marvellous season of the year, the paintings capture images that personify the seasonal showers and also the breathtaking beauty of nature. The artist has merged her individual style with some lively and eye-catching colours that make the monsoon more colourful. Born in Jallandhar in Punjab in 1961, Illoosh's family came to the country from Sialkot in Pakistan after Partition. As a child, she was good at draughtsmanship. Therefore, she devoted a considerable amount of her time to drawing and painting. Delhi-based Illoosh is now a popular figure in the art circle and her works have been displayed at various exhibitions both in the country as well as abroad. Her exhibitions have been held in New Delhi, Mumbai, London, Kolkata and Singapore. At Sophia Polytechnic in Mumbai she imbibed the knack of commercial art and today stands as a venerated artist expressing her forte in oils on canvas. Her works have been reviewed, appreciated and commented upon by well-known artists and art lovers. Presently her works are on display at various art galleries worldwide. Her paintings form part of the collections of art lovers and collectors in India and abroad. Illoosh's first exhibition was held at India Habitat Centre here in New Delhi in 1998, while her second show was also held at the same venue in 1999. -- Madhur Tankha
