DAVANGERE: S.A. Ravindranath, Minister for Rural Water Supply and Sugar, said that the proposed Upper Bhadra project was not feasible and the Government was unfortunately trying its hand in an impossible task. Speaking to presspersons at Huchavanahalli Basapura village on Thursday, Mr. Ravindranath said lift irrigation projects were not successful in India and it was not feasible to spend Rs. 2500 crore on the project. The State was already facing a severe power shortage, he added. To a question, Ravindranath, who has been in the forefront of the agitation against the Upper Bhadra, said he did not want to oppose the project and antagonise and embarrass his colleagues and the Government. He said since the project was not viable, the Government would withdraw the project after sometime. "Why should I oppose them," he asked. Tailend regions of the bhadra achacut were not given water since commissioning the Bhadra reservoir, he said. When that was the case, how could the Government take up a new project, he asked.
