ANANTAPUR: The bandh call given by the CPI (Maoist) in the district evoked a partial response on Thursday. Except banks and insurance companies, Government and private offices functioned normally. A majority of the commercial establishments functioned normal. Private and APSRTC buses to remote and naxal-affected areas were kept off the road since Wednesday night. Region Manager of the RTC M.N. Prakash Rao said that the corporation suffered a loss of about Rs. 10 lakhs due to cancellation of bus services to the naxalite-affected areas. Meanwhile, a bomb threat to the municipality office at Guntakal forced officials to close the office when a phone call was received in the Municipal Chairperson's chamber four times.
Maoist's warning
According to the police, a person claiming to be a Maoist functionary from Rakelta area warned civic staff that bombs were planted on the premises of the office and they would explode in the afternoon. The staff immediately informed the police but the latter did not dare to enter the office.
