Kakinada: National Centre for Sustainable Aquaculture (NCSA) will come up soon at Kakinada. he centre will be very much helpful in extending latest technology besides modern laboratory facilities to aqua farmers. East Godavari Collector M. Subrahmanyam said on Thursday that the Central Government had sanctioned Rs. 6 crores for the centre and efforts were being made to launch it during September itself. It was planned to set up it temporarily in the buildings located on the Fisheries Research Institute premises now under the control of Sri Venkateswera Veterinary University, he said. Once the centre starts functioning, he said, the services of experts of various branches of aquaculture would be available to farmers.
Collector's visit
The Collector earlier inspected the fisheries research institute premises. Later, accompanied by the officials of the Fisheries Department, he visited the Fisheries Technology Institute in Yetimoga area and inspected antibiotic testing laboratory, navigation training unit, fishing gear section, sample preparation room, library and museum. Fisheries officials explained the Collector that 14,500 hectares was under prawnculture previously but now it came down to 8000 hectares owing to prevalence of viral diseases besides fall in price of prawns in the market.
