Court clears stay on panchayat polls in Mangapet

HYDERABAD: A Division Bench of the High Court on Thursday vacated the stay and paved the way for elections to 18 gram panchayats of Mangapet mandal in Warangal District.

It may be recalled that a writ petition was filed complaining that the officials have reserved the post of sarpanches to 18 gram panchayat in Mangapet mandal for Scheduled Tribes on the ground that it falls within scheduled area. The petitioners said that 20 years ago, a High Court Bench declared that these were not within the scheduled area. The Single Judge had granted stay over elections.
