YSR to open meet on satellite townships

Staff Reporter

  • Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department is organising the workshop
  • VGTM-UDA will be local host

VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy will be inaugurating a one-day workshop on "Public - Private Partnership (PPP) in development of satellite townships" here on August 12. The Municipal Administration and Urban Development department is organising the workshop, while Vijayawada, Guntur, Tenali and Mangalagiri-Urban Development Authority (VGTM-UDA) will be the local host.

Chairpersons, vice-chairpersons of all UDAs in the State, representatives of various builders associations and reputed companies that are executing PPP projects are expected to attend the workshop.

Though the Chief Minister's visit is confined to the inauguration of the workshop, efforts are on to arrange a few other local programmes as part of the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation's ongoing silver jubilee celebrations.Official sources in the UDA told The Hindu that the workshop was being arranged in continuation of the deliberations that took place in the meeting of all UDAs in Hyderabad on Wednesday.

Dr. Reddy suggested to the UDAs in general, and more particularly to the VGTM-UDA, to explore the options of developing satellite townships in PPP mode by roping in landholders as investors.

This would take care of the problem of agencies such as VGTM-UDA, which had no land to take up any project.

The Chief Minister told VGTM-UDA chairman Malladi Vishnu and vice-chairman Y.S. Prasad to also speed up the Singapore Township at Mangalagiri, which was inordinately delayed.
