Delegate conference

Thiruvananthapuram: The Vigil India Movement, a Bangalore-based human rights organisation, will hold its delegate conference at J. M. Study Centre, Mannanthala, on Friday. The All India President of the Organisation, Pratapa Reddy, will inaugurate the conference at 2 p.m. — Staff Reporter

Court orders attachment

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Principal Sub Judge S.S. Vasan issued an order to attach the account of the Secretary of the Irrigation Department to realise Rs.8.9 lakhs the Government owed to a contractor in connection with a dispute relating to a contract the Government signed with him for the construction of the Kallada Irrigation Project in March 1985. According to advocate Sonay John who appeared on behalf of George Saibu, the contractor, the petition for attachment was filed this Februray. The attachment order was executed on Wednesday afternoon, he said.— Staff Reporter

`Clean city project in all wards'

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Mayor C. Jayan Babu said here on Thursday that the corporation was working on a scheme to bring all the wards under the Capital City Clean City project. He was presiding over a technical committee meeting to review the pilot project implemented in 25 core wards. Officials participating in the meeting said the garbage collection system in the targeted wards of the city had shown a marked improvement since the project was launched. They reported success in bringing down the number of temporary collection centres where residents dump their garbage. The committee decided to install dumper placers in the slum areas. It also formulated the basic action plan to extend the project to the rest of the city. The chairman of the health standing committee, G.R. Anil, technical committee chairman R.V.G. Menon and officials of various departments participated in the meeting.— Staff Reporter

NGO union slams Minister's statement

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The NGO Association has protested against the Finance Minister's reported statement that the bonus for Government employees will not be increased this year. The president of the Association R. Rajan Kurukkal, said in a statement here on Thursday that if last year's salary ceiling was retained not even Class IV employees would be eligible for bonus this time. — Special Correspondent
