Man killed, two hurt in attack

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: A driver of a call centre vehicle was killed and his two friends were injured after a 10-member gang attacked them with swords in Varthur police station limits on Wednesday.

The police gave the name of the dead as Sunil (24), a resident of Mathuranagar in Varthur. The injured, Ramesh and Santosh, were in hospital, the police said.

According to the police, Kantha, Manju, Babu and their friends had allegedly teased a woman relative of Sunil in the evening.

Enraged by this, Sunil and his five friends warned Kantha, Manju, Babu and their associates of dire consequences, the police said.

Around 9.30 p.m., while Sunil and his friends were returning home, the members of the rival group attacked them with swords at Mathuranagar, the police said.

A severely injured Sunil died instantaneously, the police said.

On a complaint by Ramesh, the Varthur police have registered a case.

Three of the accused have been arrested.
